The Usiminas System
is the biggest production complex of flat steel in Latin
America. Usiminas is the leading company within this system,
formed by 14 companies acting in the steel industry and
businesses where steel has strategic importance (capital
goods, stampering, logistics, distribution, services),
as well as social entities.
In 2005, Usiminas concluded the closing of the capital
of Cosipa - Companhia Siderúrgica Paulista, which
became then a subsidiary. After this operation, Usiminas
and Cosipa share Presidency and Directors, increasing
the integration process between the two companies.
Another accomplishment in the same year
was the participation of Usiminas, together with the Italian-argentine
group Techint, in a large steel company called Ternium,
aimed at controlling Siderar (Argentina), Sidor (Venezuela)
and Hylsamex (Mexico). Furthermore, aiming at facilitating
the access of the European financial community to Unisiminas
stock, the company made its debut in the Latibex –
European stock market specialized in trading on Latin
American companies.
The Intendente Câmara Mill, Usiminas’s
production unit, is located in Ipatinga (MG) and has a
processing capacity of 5 million tonnes of steel/year.
